Holy. Mother. Of. JOSS!

Fury: They called him Winter Soldier. Supposed to be the KGB’s secret weapon. Story went that they came him on ice and only woke him up for the big gigs. Up until today, he was just a myth.
Natasha: He’s very real. He was one of my trainers back in the red rooms.
Steve: You can’t seriously be implying that this Winter Soldier person is Bucky.
Fury: We were hoping you could tell us, you saw him last night.
I was on ao3 and one of the “pairings” listed on a fic was “Obadiah Stane/Being a big old bag of dicks” which while I haven’t read the story it was tagged in is probably my new OTP. No lie.
Avengers Day Off
“Where’s the Hawk?”
“In his nest.”

That Loki Arrow.

AVENGERS SPOILERS AHOY YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Agent Phil Coulson of SHIELD is secretly the Vision. I’ll tell you why.
- The movies have already established that both Synthezoids (Captain America) and Life Model Decoys (Avengers, Iron Man 2 [Stark Expo]) exist. Fully passable androids are already around.
- Coulson has never exhibited emotion, not once. He remains cool calm and collected in the most insane situations. Even after being stabbed through the chest by Loki he barely bats an eyelash and advises Fury to use his death to motivate the team.
- Coulson was somehow able to get through Stark Tower’s security systems basically unchallenged
- When talking about Coulson after his “death” Fury says he “lost his one good eye”, a clear reference to Coulson’s codename Vision. Coulson has acted as Fury’s eyes in the field in every single aspect of the Avenger’s Initiative
- The one subject he expresses any real enthusiasm in is Captain America, a contemporary of Jim Hammond, the original Synthezoid on which the Vision was based.
- And most importantly, if this is true then Phil Coulson is alive.
Please be alive Phil…
So, I’m a huge fan of Coulson, but I think this is completely ridiculous, seriously, if you wanted to find a way of suggesting that he was alive I’m pretty sure there are pages worth of fanfiction about it already. That being said, I just don’t think this is logically possible. A cute idea, maybe but not realistic, here’s why.
So, one of the major selling points here from what I can grasp is that Coulson shows no emotions except when it involves Captain America implying that therefore he must be a robot. This neglects that in the Marvel Comic Universe on which the movie is based most of the higher intelligence androids show tons of emotion. Ultron wants to end humanity because of their flaws and the Vision falls in love with the Scarlet Witch and even Tony’s robots act like kicked dogs when he yells at them. Coulson is an Agent of SHIELD a secret organization that knows all the awesome secrets. His job is to be cool in the face of danger, if he wasn’t he never would have made it as far up the ladder as he did. Does he really show that much less emotion than some of the other SHIELD agents, no not really. He gets frustrated with Tony Stark. He’s awed by Thor’s ability to take down his agents so he tells Clint to hold his fire because he wants to see what Thor does. He buys two packs of donuts when he can’t decide. He has emotions they’re just subdued. Additionally, his being a SHIELD agent gives him access to some pretty cool toys and Pepper likes him, so either he broke in unnoticed or she gave him access. Fury did the same thing at the end of the first Iron Man movie if you recall.
Now let’s hit point two, what the fuck Marvel would have to do to make this work. So, in Marvel 616 (The main Marvel Canon, Aka Not Ultimates, Aka Where that Picture is From) The Vision was created by Ultron which was created by Hank Pym aka Ant Man. So, it’s probably inevitable that Hank comes into the movies eventually but even if he doesn’t they could still probably mention him in passing if they wanted to make Ultron a threat. The thing is they haven’t mentioned Ultron at all and we already know who the next villain is. So it would take a total disregard for backstory, something Marvel doesn’t seem as ready to do in these movies to even get to the Vision.
So what about the Vision in Ultimates since Marvel is pulling from there (i.e. Clint and Natasha working for SHIELD, Nick Fury being black, etc.) well in Earth 1610 the Vision is an android from space come to warn about a future threat. Okay, more realistic if you want to tell me Coulson crash landed but it disregards every other point you made. There’s also one other thing, in Ultimates, the Vision’s appearance is “female” most notably Ultimates Vision has boobs, so there goes that theory.
So, as for Fury making a “clear” reference to Coulson’s codename being Vision, I disagree. I think Nick Fury who has one eye was stating that he lost his right hand man, the man he could trust with everything. He trusted Coulson more than Maria Hill as explained by Samuel L. Jackson at the Avengers Premiere so yeah, when he loses his agent in the field he did lose his eye.
So, TL;DR I disagree. You want to tell me he was taken by Skrulls for the Secret Invasion, fine. You want to leave it at the fact it was an LMD, fine. You want to leave it at they were able to save him at the last second and Fury lied anyway, fine. I just can’t see this ever working sorry.
